TIP for using plunger black sand magnets while panning: Even though gold is not magnetic, tiny particles of gold may get trapped within the magnetic sands. When using your magnet while panning, do not push it to the bottom of the pan. Hold it just below the pan's water level, then push the plunger down to engage the magnet and slowly run it just above the material in your pan. Once you have made a pass through the concentrates, shake the magnet very, very gently while still under water. This will release any tiny gold that might be trapped in the magnetics.
